For sale is a rare, mint condition 1987 Mesa Boogie Mark III red stripe combo amp. It is loaded with Mesa Boogie 6L6 power tubes and an Electro Voice EVM 12L 12" speaker. It plays and sounds like a Mesa Mark series amp should...loud with a liquid lead. If you're looking to nail that Petrucci tone, this is what you need.
For those of you who aren't familiar, the Mark III had 5 revisions over a 5 year period. Each revision was tracked with a stripe (or no stripe for the first release) located right above the power cord. Here's some info on the red stripe:
Red Stripe (1987)
The third revision was the "Red Stripe" Mark III which featured a red marker stripe above the power cord. The amplifier had lead mode circuitry almost identical to the IIC+ and some minor changes in the preamp to make it similar in circuitry to a IIC+. A further PCB board revision with revised R2 channel was introduced which forces Treble Shift on when in R2 mode. The power circuitry and presence cap remained identical to the previous stripes however.
Bottom line, if you're looking for the Mark IIC+ tone without spending $3k, this gets the job done nicely. I'm only parting ways with it because I have 10 amps (4 Mesa Boogies) and they take up too much space. Plus, I'm not much of a combo player anymore and run everything through my Mesa 212 or Marshall 412 cabs.
